This release is one of our largest yet, with a strong focus on calculation accuracy, expanded database import options, and greater visibility into intermediate results throughout the workflow. Alongside new import support for WUFI Plus/Passive and Phius climate files, we’ve added several new side calculators, expanded heat pump water heater and user-defined system device inputs, and made important corrections to ventilation and hot water piping calculations. Because several of these corrections can affect previously calculated results, we recommend reviewing the notice below before relying on existing project results.
Important: Calculation Accuracy Updates
The following corrections may change calculated results for affected projects. If you built your project from scratch in METr (rather than importing from WUFI Passive), please review it against these changes:
- Mechanical ventilation envelope placement – Previously, setting one ventilation unit to “within thermal envelope” applied that status to all units in a project. Ventilation units are now assessed individually based on each unit’s own flow rates, giving more accurate results for projects with multiple units split across the thermal envelope.
- Duct assignment fix – For projects built from scratch in METr, duplicate duct IDs could cause every ventilation device to reference the same (first) duct instead of its own. Duct-to-device assignment is now correctly individualized.
- Hot water piping calculation fix – Similarly, projects built from scratch in METr could have all trunk, branch, and twig IDs default to the same value, causing only the first pipe in each section to be included in the calculation. All pipe segments are now correctly accounted for.
- Solar collector DHW priority – Solar collector contribution is now correctly prioritized in the domestic hot water calculation.
- Auxiliary energy for user-defined system devices – Auxiliary energy input for user-defined system devices is now correctly included in results.
Key New Features
- WUFI Plus/Passive database import – Import assembly and component data directly from WUFI Plus/Passive exported database (.xml) files.
- Phius climate file import – Import custom user monthly climate files (.xls/.xlsx) provided by Phius.
- Download all reports at once – Generate and download the full set of project reports in a single step.
- New side calculators – Added calculators for Recirculation Cooling COP, Dehumidification COP, heat loss coefficient per meter of pipe, and mechanical room temperature.
- Japanese language support – METr is now available in Japanese, making the full interface accessible to Japanese-speaking users.
Main Improvements
- Heat pump water heater inputs – Added UEF as an input option, clarified how the space heating COP input feeds into the adjusted HPWH energy factor, and calculated intermediate results are now shown directly in the UI.
- User-defined system device inputs – Added energy source selection and a choice of performance data input type (performance ratio, EF, or UEF).
- Greater visibility into intermediate results – Intermediate project design and average air flow results are now shown in the Rooms Ventilation tab; hot water piping heat capacity and pipe volumes, plus total and recirculation pipe losses, are now shown in the DHW General tab; and the utilization factor for renewable energy system devices is now displayed.
- Ventilation pattern refinements – Exhaust ventilation run time is now visualized by type, and daily operation time settings for ventilation patterns are now checked against a 24-hour limit.
- Shading calculator expansion – Added an interior and exterior blind calculator for manual operation deration.
- Laundry washer input – Added IMEF as an input option.
- Reporting accuracy – Source energy factors are now shown correctly based on location/country, and the visualized components treenode now shows totals by component type.
- Streamlined hot water piping tools – Removed the simplified hot water piping calculator and floor method in favor of the standard calculation and the DHW consumption input now only appears when simplified DHW distribution method is used.
- Global R/inch – is now also applied to duct thermal conductivity.
- Zone protection – Zones with assigned components can no longer be accidentally deleted.
Bug Fixes
- Foundation data interface – “Additional data” fields now correctly display for heated basement/underground floor slab and slab-on-grade foundation types, with improved automatic detection based on project geometry and assemblies.
- Zone volumes – Calculated zone volumes now update immediately when related inputs change.
- Transparent components – Frame-to-wall psi values now auto-populate correctly, and device properties update correctly after selecting a shading device.
- Input validation – Fixed input checking for the unheated cellar attached zone type and for water storage devices.
- Database corrections – Fixed the primary layer material for two Phius database assemblies.
Report Fixes
- Corrected system device naming.
- Fixed DHW and final energy charts.
- Ventilation losses are now split into natural and mechanical ventilation losses for clearer reporting.
- Fixed the display color for renewable electricity production in site and source energy reports.
- Fixed an issue where the project picture sometimes did not appear in the report.
WUFI Passive Import Fixes
- Kitchen freezer energy demand reference now imports correctly on an annual basis instead of daily.
- Fixed import of auxiliary energy for system devices.
- Fixed climate zone import to match the more granular division in METr
- Building and weather station heights above sea level are now imported correctly if user database climate was used
